Conservation is the third fundamental Mode (mode of expression) / Component of Action. It organizes interacting fluxes of Propagations in Action which tend to maintain, to conserve, Variations (the substrate of Existence in its most elementary form, in the Fields), gradients, inhomogeneities, anisotropies in the Acted / Fields. Variations—Events—diffuse, propagate, and maintain, conserve, within the Fields.

In an incessant dynamical interaction of Forces and Fields, with Actions and re-Actions, that keeps the Sources not too close and not too far from equilibrium, the Evolution of the product of incessant Creation produces the whole Reality, both in the physical and in the cognitive domains of Nature. Reality fluctuates between equilibrium and disequilibrium, between homogeneity and inhomogeneity, isotropy and anisotropy—a dance that manifests itself in the incessant interaction between the two Operators of Reality I call Propagation and Conservation.

It is a Mode of Action relative to Reality in its most general aspects. The specifications relative to the two domains of Nature, the physical and the cognitive, are Rotation (root of Chirality/Charge and AxisOrientation/Spin) and Storage respectively. We can say that conservation do not exist, it happen. This is a Phenomenon, a product of the dynamics of the internal interaction of the two aspects of Sources.

It is associated with the Operator of Reality that has the same name and is the expression of the Fundamental Principle I call Principle of Conservation (Variations and their Propagations tend to conserve in Fields). Conservation, as an Operator of Reality, transmutes a propagating flow of Variations in a torsional flow in the same Field that tend to conserve the Action.

The Operator Conservation organizes Propagations of Variations—the fluctuations of the Acted / Fields—into torsional fluxes of Action directed toward the maintaining of inhomogeneity and anisotropy in the Fields. The Operator Conservation is responsible for the formation of vortices/rotation/curl aimed at conserving gradients (inhomogeneities, anisotropies) and divergence in the Acted/Fields.

Conservation is the way in which Acted / Fields react to the appearance of Variation and Propagation produced by the Action of Agents / Forces, the way in which Acted / Fields conserve the expression of the Agents / Forces. It is the product of the expression of Variationality. Conservation is the root of the emergence of the Dimensionality of Reality I call Temporality, the foundation of Time.

The best question with respect to Conservation undoubtedly is: what conserves?

What conserves is the alteration of the distribution of Events and the patterns of Relations /correlations that link them together. Any departure from a homogeneous distribution of Events, as well as any change in that distribution (and in their stochastic independence/correlation), represents a variation that tends to conserve in order to maintain inhomogeneity. At any level of Complexity, from the most elementary to the Universe as a Whole, Reality can be described as a network of more or less independent/correlated stochastic processes that conserve in the Fields.

Propagation and Conservation seem to be two opposing Operators / Modes or Components of Action. Yet, on closer inspection, both express propagation and conservation. Propagation tends to conserve Action through a movement/displacement in Space (imagine a photon propagating and carrying Action, Energy). Conservation tends to propagate Action through a movement/displacement in Time (imagine a particle at rest that has a lifespan). This is an elementary symmetry of Reality which, beyond appearances, should lead us to reflect on the co-evolutionary role of Operational Agents and the connected Modes/Components of Action in the Formation (Creation and Evolution) of Reality.

Modes of Action are intimately connected with the Dimensionalities of Reality: Causality and Variationality, which produce the Dimensions of Reality: Cause, Space and Time. They represent three fundamental operators in the Formation of Reality. The Operator Conservation can be seen as an expression of Temporality, the second of the two aspects of the passive side of Agency, Variationality.
