Entity is the answer to the question "what exists? what produces Existence?". It is that which possesses the Property we call "Existence". To exist means to be real, to be within, to take part in Reality. An Entity is everything that has Existence as a fundamental Property.

We can say that Entities exist because they produce Existence—through their property I call Agency, the capacity of producing Action, Existence, they generate Events, changes in or of themselves, as Sources, Agents / Forces and Acted / Fields pairs. In other words, we cannot claim that Entities exist per se; they exist in the act of producing Existence, of generating Events and Action.

Something can exist physically or metaphysically/cognitively:

  • physical entities are those that exist in the physical domain of Reality (for example: Particles, trees, our body, galaxies, the entire physical Universe),
  • metaphysical or cognitive entities are those that exist in the metaphysical/cognitive domain of Reality—the Meta-reality (for example: sensations, emotions, the cognitive side of behaviors, thoughts, cultures, meaning and semantics).

Only one kind of Entity truly exists in Reality: the Sources. Every Entity is a Source. Every Source is an Entity. Sub-Entities are complementary aspects of Sources.

Sources are the causal, spatial and temporal origins of the Events that incessantly form Reality. Although Sources are inseparable unities, they always manifest two aspects: an active and a passive side. For convenience—and with the understanding that they cannot truly exist as separate Entities—we may, for descriptive purposes and in line with common knowledge, identify two kinds of sub-Entities: Agents (or Forces) and Acted (or Fields).

As stated above, Agents / Forces and Acted / Fields are distinct aspects of the unity represented by the Sources. Forces have no meaning and cannot exist without Fields, and vice versa. Agents / Forces represent the active side of Existence, of Reality; Acted / Fields represent its passive side. This holds true at the most elementary level of Reality, as well as at more complex levels. Forces and their corresponding Fields constitute an inseparable unit: for example, we cannot observe a gravitational force without a corresponding gravitational field. The Field manifests when the related Force acts upon it. The Force manifests itself by acting on the corresponding Field. Though they are distinct aspects, Force and Field are one—a unit, a Source of Events, of Action, of Existence.

We can distinguish between Fundamental and Derived Entities, fundamental or derived in relation to their contiguity with the causal and variational (spatial and temporal) Primary Source of Reality. Everything that exists, in this broad sense, can in turn be considered a Source—a Derived Source, originating from the Primary Source. Thus, every "object" in Reality can be considered a Source, of Events, of Action, od Existence. In fact, in the physical domain of Nature, we commonly refer to Particles as "Sources of (Derived) Forces", with the "related (Derived) Fields" manifesting as a consequence of a Force's Action—producing a Variation in the corresponding Field through the very act of acting upon it.

Contrary to the conventional view in physics (which considers Matter as the Source of Forces and Fields), we conceive the manifestations of Forces and Fields in terms of Action(s)—as Processes of Events, organized by Relations, produced by Derived Sources (the same Derived Forces and Fields), understood as complex organizations of more Elementary Events occurring at the level of the Fundamental Force and the Elementary Field—the Primary Source, ultimately.

One Fundamental Entity

There is only one Fundamental Entity—the causal and variational origin of all that exists (Space, Time, Energy, Matter, etc.)—the Primary Source of Reality. By extension, this includes its two aspects cited above. It is difficult to speak of the Source, as it represents both the primordial origin of Existence and the primordial Existence itself in the act of producing Existence: formless, undifferentiated, absolutely uniform, absolutely potential.

Henceforth, we will often refer to the Primary Source through its two aspects. The fundamental/elementary sub-Entities that exist at the most elementary level of Reality are:

  • the Fundamental Force: the fundamental "Agent", the primordial cause—the causal aspect of the Source of all that exists;
  • the Elementary Field: the fundamental "Acted", the substrate and sustainer—the variational (spatial and temporal) aspect of the Primary Source of Reality.

We must reiterate that the Force and the Field are a unity—distinct aspects of the Fundamental Entity, the Source, the one and only origin of Reality. The Force is the active, creative side of the Source; the Field is its passive, receptive side. They cannot exist separately. This point is of utmost importance, because, in my opinion, the incorrect understanding of the proper relationship between Force and Field—whether in classical, relativistic, or quantum frameworks—is a source of endless problems and misunderstandings, contributing to the current difficulty in achieving a synthetic vision in physics.

The unmanifested Fundamental Force acts upon the unmanifested Elementary Field in its primordial causal condition—"Nothingness"—producing Elementary Events, what, subsequently, when observing the Elementary Field from the standpoint of Metric, of Space, we may identify as infinitesimal spatial fluctuations, resonating around the Planck scale.

This initiates a transition of the Elementary Field: from Nothingness to "Emptiness", the vacuum, absolute homogeneity—into what we will call the unstructured Elementary Field, in its most elementary and absolutely homogeneous form (the minimal level of organization). In this condition, the temporal distributions of spatial fluctuations at each point-event of the Field are stochastically independent from those of all other points. This is a hypothetical condition, deemed hypothetical due to the intrinsic tendency of Elementary Events to self-organize in Structures—whether turbulent or more or less ordered.

Infinite Derived Entities

Structures of Information (Matter and Radiation—both invisible / dark and visible / ordinary), Forms, any object, structure, system, everything that exists can be seen as an Entity, a Source, a Derived Source precisely.

Like the Primary Source, each Derived Source exhibits an active aspect:

  • a Derived Agent/Force, in the case of sources associated with Fundamental Physical Quantities (Metric/Mass, Motion, Charge, Spin)—for example, the attractive force of an electron due to its electric charge,
  • the subject performing the Action in the case of Forms (objects, structures) and Systems of Forms—for example, my arm lifting a book.

and a passive aspect:

  • a Derived Acted/Field, in the case of sources associated with Fundamental Physical Quantities (Metric/Mass, Motion, Charge, Spin)—for example, the electric field generated by an electron due to its own electric charge
  • the object undergoing the Action in the case of Forms (objects, structures) and Systems of Forms—for example, the book being lifted by my arm.

In other words, we can observe the Derived Physical Entities—the Derived Sources—in their two complementary aspects (sub-Entities):

  • Agents: the Derived Forces acting upon the corresponding Derived Fields (Forces associated with Fundamental Physical Quantities such as gravitational, kinetic, electric, and magnetic Forces), along with the weak and strong nuclear Forces and all complex Forces observable in Reality.
  • Acted: the Derived Fields upon which these Derived Forces operate, producing variations in their dynamics—phenomena we refer to as Events. The organization of these Events into Processes constitutes natural Phenomena, including interactions between Particles, chemical reactions, physical interactions among material Forms, and the dynamics of Cosmic Structures. These encompass the Derived Fields associated with the Fundamental Physical Quantities (metric, gravitational, kinetic, electric, and magnetic fields), as well as the weak and strong nuclear Fields and all complex Fields observable in the Universe.

Agency - Agents - Acted - Action

Agency is the fundamental Property of the Sources. It is the capacity to produce Action—to transform the Possible into the Actual—generating Events and Relations among them, and forming organized Processes, the building blocks of the Dynamics of Reality.

We will address the Agency of the Entities in a forthcoming chapter, specifically dedicated to the Sources (the Force / Field pairs).
