Dimensionalities of Reality

While dimensions are intended as ways of observing the world, the Universe, and all the Forms that compose it, dimensionalities are to be considered fundamental emerging Properties of the two components of the Source of Reality. Dimensionalities are the roots of the Dimensions through which we observe and experience Reality.

Dimensionality is the principal expression of Agency—the capacity to produce Action, inhomogeneities in the distributions of Events. Agency is the power/capacity/ability to act, to make Events happen, to create Reality and make it evolve. It is the primary functional manifestation of the Primary Source. Only Events possess real significance (Action) as manifestations of Existence, and each Event occurs within a frame of reference—a dimensional Field.

The active side/aspect of the Source, the Fundamental Force, expresses itself through a dimensionality known as Causality. This is the causal aspect of Creation and Evolution of Reality. It arises from the active aspects of Agency, referred to as Agents / Forces.

The passive side/aspect of the Source, the Elementary Field, expresses itself through a dimensionality known as Variationality (Spatiality and Temporality). This represents the spatial and temporal dimensionalities of Creation and Evolution—the two sub-Processes of the Formation of Reality. It emerges from the passive elements of Agency, referred to as Acted / Fields.

In a relational approach to the study of Nature, dimensionality is a Property that emerges from the Relation between the two fundamental aspects of the Source and the Derived Sources—between Fundamental Force/Derived Forces and Elementary Field/Derived Felds, from the interaction between the Action of the Forces and the effects they produce in the Fields. Hence, dimensionality—like other fundamental characteristics of Reality—must be understood as a relational property with reference to Events. In this sense, we may say that dimensionality does not exist—it happens. It is a phenomenon, a product of the dynamic interplay between the two aspects of the Source of Reality.

(*) Variation as a Dimension of Reality is considered only through its two components Space and Time. For Variation more properly we intend the first of the Modes / Components of Action, the other two being Propagation and Conservation.

Dimensionalities of Physical Reality

Expression of the Dimensionalities of Reality in the physical domain of Nature. Let us attempt to revisit what has just been said regarding dimensionalities in general, with reference to the entirety of Reality—both in its physical and cognitive aspects—and try to articulate it specifically within the physical domain.

While physical dimensions are intended as ways of observing the world, the Physical Universe and all the Physical Forms that compose it, physical dimensionalities are to be considered fundamental emerging Properties of the two aspects of the Primary Source of Reality.

Dimensionality is the principal expression of Physical Agency—the capacity to produce Physical Action, inhomogeneities in the distributions of Elementary Events, and the more complex Physical Events that characterize the Physical Phenomena. Physical Agency is the power/capacity/ability to act, to make Elementary Events / Physical Events happen, to create Physical Reality and make it evolve. Physical Agency is the main functional expression of the Source. Only Physical Events have real significance (Physical Action) as manifestations of Existence in a physical sense and each Physical Event occurs within a frame of reference, a dimensional field.

The active side, or aspect, of the Source, the Fundamental Force, expresses itself through a dimensionality known as Physical Causality. This is the causal aspect of Creation and Evolution of Reality in its physical domain. It arises from the active aspects of Physical Agency, referred to as Physical Agents / Forces.

The passive side/aspect of the Source, the Elementary Field, expresses itself through a dimensionality known as Physical Variationality (Physical Spatiality and Physical Temporality). This represents the spatial and temporal side of Physical Creation and Physical Evolution—together forming the Formation of Physical Reality. It emerges from the passive elements of Agency, referred to as Physical Acted / Fields.

In a relational approach to the study of Nature, dimensionality is a Property emerging from the relation between the two fundamental aspects of the Source and the Physical Sources—between Force/Physical Forces and Field/Physical Fields, from the relation between the Action of the Forces and the effects they produce in the physical domain of Nature, acting on Physical Fields. Hence, physical dimensionality—like other fundamental characteristics of Reality—must be understood as a relational property with reference to Physical Events. In this sense, we may say that dimensionality does not exist—it happens. It is a Phenomenon, a product of the internal dynamic interaction between the two aspects of the Source of Reality.

(*) Physical Variation as a Dimension of Physical Reality is considered only through its two physical components—Space and Time. For Variation, more properly, we refer to the first of the Modes / Components of Physical Action, which I call Perturbation, the other two being Translation and Rotation.

Dimensions of Reality

While dimesionalities are to be considered as fundamental emerging properties of the two components of the Source of Reality, dimensions are intended as ways of observing the world, the Universe and all the Forms that compose it.

We can observe and measure Reality in three fundamental "directions", corresponding to the three fundamental emerging properties of the manifestations of the Source: causality (expression of the Fundamental Force), Variationality, in its components Spatiality and Temporality (expression of the Elementary Field).

We can observe and measure Physical Reality in three fundamental directions, corresponding to the three fundamental emerging properties of the manifestations of the Source: cause (or force), space, time, dimensions that directly derive from the corresponding dimensionalities.

Formative domains: the dimensions of Reality

In the field of Cognitive Reality, in the metaphysical domain, composed by Immaterial Forms, Cognitive Forms (Information at the higher levels of complexity), in some areas and for some aspects, causal and spatial-temporal dimensions assume a different forms and can be transcended (eg products of imaginative thought, dreams, metaphysical descriptive models, physical theories "exotic"). In this domain of Reality the perception and the cognitive modelling of the dimensions of Physical Reality become particularly relevant.

In the field of Evolutionary Physics, three fundamental dimensions of Physical Reality are identified: the causal dimension, the spatial dimension (the "space", the spatial structure that combines the three classical spatial dimensions) and the temporal dimension ("time"). The spatial dimension, the "spatial distance", can be represented by means of many different systems of spatial "three coordinates" (rectangular, polar, cylindrical, etc.) and combined with the temporal dimension to form the four-dimensional space-time continuum. The three fundamental dimensions of Reality, "cause, space and time", manifest themselves in continuous domains, which represent fundamental properties of the fundamental sub-entity: the Elementary Field. All three dimensional realms are relative, relative to the Elementary Action, the distributions of the Elementary Events.

Causality and space-time simultaneously emerge from the inner interaction of the two aspects of the Primary Source. Causality is not prior to space-time. It is the causal action of the Force on the Field that produces the emergence of Causality and Variationality, root of all the fundamental Physical Phenomena:

the Derived Physical Forces and Derived Physical Fields that we observe in Nature.
