Propagation is the second fundamental Mode (mode of expression) / Component of Action. It spreads Variation, the substrate of Existence in its most elementary form, through the Fields. Variations—Events—diffuse, propagate, within the Fields. It is a Mode of Action relative to Reality in its most general aspects. The specifications relative to the two domains of Nature, the physical and the cognitive, are Translation (root of Motion) and Communication respectively. We can say that propagations do not exist, they happen. This is a Phenomenon, a product of the dynamics of the internal interaction of the two aspects of Sources.
It is associated with the Operator of Reality that has the same name and is the expression of the Fundamental Principle I call Principle of Propagation (everything that exists, every Variation tends to propagate in the Field in Space and Time). Variation, as an Operator of Reality, transmutes a Variation occurring in a point-event in a Field into a flow of Variations propagating in the same Field.
The Operator Propagation organizes Variations—the fluctuations of the Acted / Fields—into fluxes of Action directed toward the restoration of homogeneity and isotropy in the Fields. The Operator Propagation is responsible for the formation of fluxes / divergence aimed at canceling gradients (inhomogeneities, anisotropies) in the Acted / Fields.
Propagation is the way in which Acted / Fields react to the appearance of Variation produced by the Action of Agents / Forces, the way in which Acted / Fields receive the expression of the Agents / Forces. It is the product of the expression of Causality. Propagation is the root of the emergence of the Dimensionality of Reality we call Spatiality, the foundation of Space.
The best question with respect to Propagation undoubtedly is: what propagates?
What propagates is the alteration of the distribution of Events and the patterns of correlations that link them together. Any departure from a homogeneous distribution of Events, as well as any change in that distribution (and in their stochastic independence/correlation), represents a Variation that tends to propagate to restore homogeneity. At any level of complexity, from the most elementary to the Universe as a Whole, Reality can be described as a net of more or less independent/correlated stochastic processes that propagate in the Fields.
Modes of Action are intimately connected with the Dimensionalities of Reality: Causality and Variationality, which produce the Dimensions of Reality: Cause, Space and Time. They represent three fundamental operators in the Formation of Reality. The Operator Propagation can be seen as an expression of Spatiality, the first of the two aspects of the passive side of Agency, Variationality.
