Causality and Cause are foundational aspects of Reality, active expressions of the Agency of the Source of Reality. They are, respectively, the Dimensionality and the Dimension associated with Forces (the Fundamental Force, and, more generally, the Derived Forces)—operating in the incessant construction of the causal fabric of Reality.

Causality

Causality is one of the fundamental Dimensionalities of Reality, the foundation of the causal dimension, a fundamental emerging property of Reality, and one of the two modes of expression of the Source.

Causality represents the relation that binds Force to Action, and more broadly, Derived Agents / Forces to Derived Action, Agents / Forces to Events, and to Relations that organize them in Processes. The Causal Dimension—limitless—extends from the elementary to the complex, forming a continuum that incessantly realizes the Formation (Creation and Evolution) of Reality.

It spans from uncertainty and indetermination to finality. This dimension serves as a metric for the level of organization within the Structures of Information and the Forms that incessantly evolve in the Elementary Field—a scale of Complexity within Reality and the Forms that inhabit it.

The milestones along this continuous dimension include:

  • uncertainty (chaos, random order, minimum level of Organization, minimal correlation between Events, etc.) -> the form of Causality typical of the quantum realm
  • certainty (the organization of classical forms of ordinary Reality, objects of "normal" Reality) -> typical of the world of classical physics
  • finality (the high level of expression of the dynamic and conservative aspects of Living Forms) -> characteristic of the more complex aspects of Reality—the cognitive aspects expressed through the Cognitive Systems of Living Beings and synthetic autonomous agents (automata, AI)

Causality pertains to the fact and the manner in which Agents / Forces / Causes, acting upon Acted / Fields / Space-Time, produce Events (variations) / effects both at the elementary level of Reality, where the Fundamental Force and the Elementary Field interact to generate Elementary Events, Action, and more generally, at higher levels of Complexity, where Derived Agents / Forces act upon Derived Acted / Fields producing more complex events—Derived Action.

In this sense, Causality can be regarded as the fundamental expression of Agency on its active side—the essential manifestation of the causal principle/property of Force(s). It is closely linked to the Operator of Reality known as Perturbation, itself an expression of the broader Operator Variation.

Within a relational approach to the study of Nature, Causality emerges from the relation between the two fundamental aspects of the Source—between Force(s) and Field(s)—from the interaction between the Action of Forces and the effects they produce within Fields. Thus, Causality, like the other two fundamental dimensionalities, must be understood as a relational Property with respect to Events. In this sense, we may say that Causality does not exist—it happens, in making Reality happen. It is a phenomenological aspect, a product of the dynamic interaction between the two aspects of the Source of Reality.

Cause

Cause is any direct expression of Agents / Forces, within the context of Agency, where the Action of Agents / Forces produces Events—variations—in the Acted / Fields: the "effects", in short, arising from the inner interactions between the two complementary aspects of the Sources.

Cause finds its foundation in Causality, one of the fundamental Dimensionalities of Reality, a core emerging Property of Reality.

Cause assumes different meanings, aspects, properties, limits, and constraints within the two complementary domains of Nature: the Physical and the Cognitive Reality.
